I generally don't like the Chinatowns of most cities I've been to. Except for one, all are dirty, overcrowded, encroached upon and noisy, and the people there appear to dislike outsiders who don't speak their language. The only redeeming factor is cheap food (and pirated DVDs... but I didn't say that. [:-$])
The one exception was London, England. It's so spick and span, and the Chinese there actually take the trouble to speak English like the English. |

| When you reach Chinatown, there is always billboards of chinese characters and that chinese aroma, you know you are a familiar place.

| At Spadina (Toronto)aka Chinatown what we call it.I;ve notice one thing about the sign boards. Every sign board is painted in red and yellow....which i guess means good wealth.[:-?] |

In Melbourne ... Chinatown is famous for "YUM-CHA" ... one can find lots of foreigners and tuorists there !! .. it gets really crowded during the week ends ... |

| You can't compare Calcutta's chinatown with other cities' chinatown.
Our chinatown is only one alley. And frankly, I never liked the foods the chinese sold there.

| did u know the first chinatown in calcutta was near present bura bazar or bagri market its still called old china market..presently it seems when we say chinatown most ppl think we imply tangra..our chinatown is more know as chinese breakfast market...cos there is nothing else in it ..it looks chinese only for few hours in the morning..and then its converted into a garrage..i think chinatown both tangra and of central calcutta comes alive only during new years..infact most chinese come alive only then... |

yeah i heard about that ... but i think its well known as bura bazar/bagri market itself ...
