[/quote] [8D]hi,this is for everyone who visits this website,a kind request on behlaf of me and everybody who have applied,we cant view the chinese website here..soo will sum1 be kind enuff to jess copy paste the names of people who have been granted admission in diffrent universities and courses, like tourism, cookery, bakery, foreign language or hair dresser course.... if u can give the names in english that would be highly appreciated.[bow]

The site might be down, check it after a while. Well if you are using any recent browsers, eg IE6, firefox, etc. There is always a "Character Encoding" which will make your browser able to view most of the languages. Choose "Big5" encoding for viewing Traditional Chinese. [:)]

I would guess chineseindian have been black-listed. Most never graduate and are rebellious to authorities. PCCU is a university, not some high school.

edwardchiu
I guess Taiwan isn't too bothered with overseas students. Whole site in Chinese... Even admission lists. [8-}] It's a fact that every country with a worthwhile higher education system is out to get Indian students. If Taiwan's not in the game, their loss. [L-)]

Keith
CHECK PHOTO ALBUM FOR NAMELIST.

davidli2k
There are only 7 Indians admitted. I'm not sure for which semester they have been admitted to? February of 2005?? and all are Males!!! Anyway, the names are: 1) Ku Te Chung Terence 2) Lee Hsiao Lien 3) Chen Hai Hsing 4) Koo Chih Kao 5) Lee Wee Chen 6) Lee Pak Fat 7) Liu Sheng Chiang Do you see your name in there, Aaron??

Ed...all the students admitted into Taiwanese universities are of Chinese origin only and the authorities here "assume" that these overseas chinese can read Chinese characters. Hence, these list are all in Chinese. The list which Keith posted contained many overseas chinese from Indonesia and Malaysia and their Chinese abilities is far more better than their Indian counterparts.

You got it mistaken here Ed..."every country with a worthwhile higher education system is out to get Indian students"..you got it right till here...but these countries are seeking only the Engineers and software experts and programmers from India, which sadly, the "Indian Chinese" don't possess. Most indian chinese come to Taiwan just to "look around", "play around" and probably find some work (this is the exact description of myself [:-~] )...so the suspicions of the Taiwanese authorities about not admitting too many Indian students is justified.

soda-popenski
I guess Ed doesn;t know the system here, these are diplomas and not degrees courses. For degree courses, ppl apply during jan and the sem starts on sep, admission is based entirely on academic results, admission is guaranteed! But gettin into top tier unis(top major) ? [:-?] If u are looking for something in fibre optics, go for EE(photonic ¥ú¹q) someting in fibres only then i presume its material science engineering (§÷®Æ). Both the degrees are [^]

Hey Aaron, I 've the feeling there is something wrong with your application. Most tangra ppl got through, and this is their second time. Are you sure you applied through the same channel as them? I would highly suggest you to contact the responsible 'Indian Agent' for the confirmation, or fire an email to the admission office in Taiwan. The first question you should be asking is whether they received your application. Back to the days when you make your first post, I just had a feeling you guys weren't going the right way. I could have helped if I was in Taiwan or in close-contact with some of friends who re-applied. Too bad, no one helped you significantly from this forum. *sigh*

aaron_wong
[8D]can sum1 plz gimme the email addy for the admission department in taiwan??coz i wanna email them and ask..and today's my last post in this forum..the next time will only be when my status really changes from india to taiwan in my profile..my promise!!!![:)>-] thanxs for all ur concerns, thanxs roger...!!![^]

They are given 3 or 4 preferences, so they are making full use of it. Like when u applied for ur uni, u were given 30 preferences!!! U didn;t know that? I guess some1 else filled the form for u.

The correct way is to apply for ONE course but choose 30 DIFFERENT Universities which are offering this course... ( The problem is when we are still in Cal we don't know what $hit is going on as our Chinese is not so "pukka" to fully read and understand the instructions in the forms. So we leave it ALL to some semi-literate a$$hole there to do the needful, who even doesn't know what is going on and who doesn't care much too. )

davidli2k
Yes, what Jackal said is true...I did the same I think when I applied more than 3 years ago. We get a sort of pink color form and we have more than 30+ univ to choose from. My chinese was "Zero" at that time, my mom's was O.K but she had a hard time deciphering the forms herself and the agent (Chong Khiet) spoke only some gibberish Chinese which I couldn't comprehend and neither did my mom ...so what we did was we just started ticking and ticking the many boxes that were available.....choosing mostly the courses in Business Administration and Foreign languages... But the one thing that made the difference was my mom had a lil' bit of experience in this in that she had applied before for my bro and she knew we MUST (I repeat MUST) tick the univ offering Chinese training (i.e. The National University Preparatory School [NUPS] ). In the event if we don't get into any of the univ. we applied, then the authorities will just place us into NUPS automatically. NUPS is a 100% guarantee if you want to come to taiwan by hook or by crook. The main factor which the authorities are looking for here is whether the candidates Chinese is upto the mark or not (we were told to write an essay about ourselves in chinese or in english and since we wrote in English, they knew our chinese sucked...and so we landed up in NUPS)... I remember when I was in Chong Khiet's place ticking feverishly away at the forms trying to choose which univ to go to...a Tangra guy came in (I wont name him [:)])..he picked up the form and just ticked one box...i.e. NUPS ...he knew firsthand he wont be getting any other univ and that NUPS was a 100% guarantee...and guess what...we all landed up in Taiwan in NUPS. I had stupidly wasted 2 hours figuring what univ. to choose and that dude just took 10 mins and ultimately, we ended up at the same place[:p] But the thing here is NUPS is a degree course i.e. it prepares you to go to a univ. here in Taiwan while the one Aaron applied was the Diploma course. The applications for the degree course can be done every year while the diploma course comes once in 2 years...

Great David.. Yes, I forgot about the NUPS part. That was the last option I ticked. But, It is better if you can get into a univ straight away. NUPS is MORE difficult to study than univ course. But, as David says it GUARANTEES you a trip to Taiwan even if the computers don't allot you to the other universities. Very well explained, David. ( I always knew Josephites and Xaverians were smart ) [^][^]

For your kind INFO, I knew it very well and all thanks to someone. Yes, you are right by saying "making full use of it". What I meant to say was, CHOOSE several Universities or Names of Institutes, having one MAJOR course as target. Not one person choosing several course and several universities. Is is possible for one to do several things at one time...!!...

roger
We've to ask the old-timers about how they applied, I think some of them did apply for "Tourism" and "Cookery" and I don't see how these two courses are related but yet they got admitted. Remember, we can't apply the rules of our average university to this kind of courses. Yes, if you applied for decent university, and any signs of weavering on your selected interest is a bad sign.

Postman who did not deliver letters Behrampore, Jan. 12: From a hundred kilograms of old missives sold as junk tumbled out an appointment letter, an admit card, an admission notice and the shocking secret that postman Sisir Dutta has not been delivering letters for about five years. As word spread, residents of Begunbari village in Murshidabad¡¦s Beldanga area ransacked the house of the 48-year-old post office employee. Sisir has been arrested. For the past five years, Sisir has been handing out some letters to his teenaged son Palash for distribution and stowing away the rest at home. A couple of days ago, he sold the old letters bundled in packets to a junk dealer. The lot found its way to a bigger trader, Mostaq Sheikh, in Beldanga market, who opened the packets to find sealed letters. Suspicious, he informed the villagers. They came to his shop and found an appointment letter from the health department in the name of Najibur Rahman, the admit card to a railway examination for another youth, Minarul Haque, and a letter confirming Imazuddin Sheikh¡¦s admission to a junior basic training school. The three are still unemployed. Enraged, they raided Sisir¡¦s house. He fled by the back door as the residents ransacked his house. A complaint with the police led to the postman¡¦s arrest. ¡§What the postman has done is unpardonable. He has played around with people¡¦s fate. I appeared for the interview in 2002. Many of those who appeared for the interview with me are already working. I thought I had failed,¡¨ said Najibur. Could this same thing have happened in Aaron's case either in Cal side or Taiwan side ?[:-?][:-?]

Let me get some1 to repli dat for u. Yes hostel accomodation is provided. Class timing depends on what subjects you choose but 8am class is normal. And depends on how early you want to go. Prolly few weeks is okay. You renew the visa once a year. School do it for you. Nope you can't apply for resenditial visa (PR) there. All you get is a student visa. Why you want the one in yangminsan? lol, there are other very good colleges too, interseted ? [:D]

What is your intentions? To study or enjoy around ? If you are to enjoy, then 'cookery' classes aint' that easy, teacher take attendances, and you have to take other subjects too, like 'computer', 'history'. But, if you have money, you dont' need to work on weekends and you can party around.

GET TO THE POINT : EITHER STAY IN THE BIG FIRM AND GET HER TO STAY WITH YOU IN INDIA OR CONVINCE HER TO REGISTER AND COME AS HUBBY. YOU MIGHT HAVE A LOT OF REGRETS COMING HERE AS STUDENT. What is your story? tell us and we can figure it out better. GF on a citizenship ? Studying in some languagae institute is another option too, study for 2hrs / day and cool. U can work and enjoy. But need to leave the country every 4 months.

aaron_wong

roger
School cost is approx 55,000NTD per semester (half-yearly), tution fees and hostel included. Meal would be around 6000NTD per month. All schools ask you to pay upfront before you can start staying in their dormitory. Add 4000NTD/month for misc things.

PHOTOCOPYING FORMS FOR LARGE SCALE USE IS A NORM IN TAIWAN

aaron_wong
[8D]hey tangra local???ru aware of this crisis???any websites ppl can download the application form from>>>????i think that would be a very useful info to ppl who r trying to apply this year~!!![*-:)][*-:)]

davidli2k

PHOTOCOPYING FORMS FOR LARGE SCALE USE IS A NORM IN TAIWAN
I dont think this is true for university forms.....Each application form for the university is unique in that it has a serial number and when a student applies for that univ. using that form, he will automatically be associated with that unique serial number. So if there are several copies for one particular form, only the original will be taken into consideration and all copies will be "trashed"....This is just my opinion...... I'm just relating from experience when I was studying in the Shi Da language institute and had to apply for the schlorship. I asked if I could copy the schlorship form and they said "no" since there are serial numbers in each forms. So you can do the math.....why would Chong Khiet sell application forms in the black market when one could easily make copies and distribute them........Dont take my word for it....I aint too sure about Taiwan's rulez too....it changes everyday.....so I could be wrong u know.........Maybe there's a website somewhere where u can download the forms etc......but Aaron.... your computer must support chinese language script in order to print out those forms... just wanted to let u know.... Best of luck....[\:D/]

Yeah, they are " bar coded " so the chick at the univ office just uses a scanner and finds your details.. So photo copying will create many applicants with the same serial number... which would be a real mess..... Wow, I didn"t know he was selling them in Black.. Raymond you were lucky then !!! Aaron, this is sad but true!!!The new rules are made to stop many overseas chinese from "crowding" up Taiwan. The govt. is getting cleverer each year. They know many ppl come here under the pretext of studies and they then later stay and work here and "Drain" up the resources of Taiwan!!!!So now there are tighter and stricter regulations regarding students studying here.... Most Indian overseas chinese have went back to India after their 2 years of course were completed. Some emigrated to Canada for good!! Other ways of staying back are: 1) Join a language Institute where you can get a student's visa but you cannot work. You can work part time only after completing 1 year in the language center but that too only for a limited number of hours/week. Besides, you must have a good record of attendance and your grades must be good. Only then will the Police stations extend your visa. U also need to go to the police station every 3 months to extend your visa ( I know, this is very cumbersome and you have to spend a lot of money on the fees and visa and what not!! ) 2) You can join a university and study for 4 years but it is still the same as Option 1. You need to spend loads of cash on your fees and can only wrk part time with the Univ wrk permit. 3) U can get the work permit if a company is willing to hire you. But then, it is quite difficult to get a work permit here in Twn. Many ppl tried but got rejected. If you were an American with caucasian looks and blond hair and blue eyes, then you needn't worry bout nothin'. You could get a work permit easily to work as an english teacher....but then pal, since we are hindustanis, we are not eligible to teach english here ( I know it sucks!! our english is good but then we dont have THAT American accent which Taiwaneses die for!!! ) Heck!! Maybe some Americans are convicted felons or Child molesters/rapists in the States, but they could be teaching English here in Twn. All they need to write in their resume is " I'm American, I got some ABC degree from some XYZ college and I love kids!!!![:D] 4) This is the best option: Get married and get the marriage visa or the JFRV ( Joining Family Resident Visa ). But then dude!!! Marriage is a real headache here in Twn and you need to spend loads of cash. If your gal agrees to a simple marriage in the court, then that is fine. And the good part is, after you get married and have the Marriage visa, you can work just like a Taiwanese without the need of a wrk permit!!!! 5) Try to get yourself elected as the President of Taiwan!! Cheers!!!!

They usually send the forms a couple of months in advance. I didnt take the Yangming cookery course so I dont have much idea about when you should receive yours..... 2 yrs. cookery course are in a world of its own. This course is specially designed for overseas chinese. Different rules apply. guess the overseas chinese commission is charge of this program. Keith's rite....diplomas wont get you a work permit, only degrees can.....Oh!!! Also.....forget about getting the work permit with a Taiwan degree.....you MUST have your Indian degree to get the work permit cos of the "2 years work experience" rule which states " Applicants must show 2 years of proven work experience in a related field AFTER graduation" ......so if you do the math....if you come here to study in a univ. and manage to get the degree after 4 years and try to apply for the work permit....you WILL be rejected cos 1) You dont have the necessary 2 years of work experience AFTER graduation AND if you somehow show them you have the 2 years work experience, they will promptly reject you on the grounds of illegal work and might even deport you after making you pay all the fines and back taxes [:-SS] 2) your original plan to come to Taiwan was to study and not to work (although everyone does that) and the govt. will do what they can to not let you work here cos they are having enough heat down their necks due to the escalating unemployment rate.

I can see this thread getting way off-topic. But anyway... So aaron got into Taiwan by studying in Shih-Ta, and you already got a gf. But if you want to make more friends, japanese girls are fun people. I did suggest you to take up the morning classes, preferably the one at 8am and 10am. That is when you have the most students. If you are working part-time in a restaurant, then you only get free breaktime for the 2pm class, so it is a tough call, not many students at 2am. And if there are, it is mainly overseas chinese working like you part-time. Try to enroll in a begineers class, chances of a full american/japanese/korean class is high. And, as a chinese, you get the chance to teach them as friends. Japanese, genrally, are more outgoing. Korean more uptight and friendship bonded. ABCs are cool too but too snoobish. Once you find some cool friends, your classes at shih-ta would be real fun.

aaron_wong
[8D]thanxs once again roger..yeah i'm enrolled for morning classes from 8am to 10am soo its pretty kool and ur right the japanese people are more friendly and outgoing..and the korean girls a little uptight..but the abc and british students are snobs...[xx(] i can see myself this thread is going offtrack..soo people if we wanna discuss abt life in taiwan..then we can do so in the topic created by me earlier...life in taiwan[:D] and we can keep this topic handy for people who need pointers and tips to come to taiwan as students...[^][:-~]

Definately cheaper, As an international student in Taiwan, we don't have to pay any extra tuition, we pay the same tuition the taiwanese students pay. But in North America international student usually have to pay triple or more of what the residents pay. For a full time undergraduate degree in a national university (goverment owned) the tuition is usually around 30k per semester including residence cost ( a few thousand up and down depending on the program you take and other school's charges). In a private university the tuition is a little more than double of national uni's tuition. So it is around 60k NT$ (2400 CAD) for national uni, and around 140k NT$ (5600 CAD) for a private uni per year. I checked a few universities in Canada and US. In Canada the tuition for international student is around 14k CAD per year. In US it is double of Canada uni's tuition. So even if you are in a private university in Taiwan, you would be paying only about 40% of what you would be paying for tuition if you were to go to Canada and only about 20% if you were to go to US for studies as an international student. Please do correct me if I am wrong. [:D]

kool_loving_babe
holy cow!![:0] wow....that is dirt cheap...yes its true international students in Canada pay almost 4 times extra compared to the residents here. not to forget health care fees, dental, etc....blahh blahh
