Read somewhere "Do the RIGHT thing, Don't do the THINGS right..."
Sets me thinking : If things are not done right, how could the Right things be DONE?
I think the line shoule be amended to read : DO THE RIGHT THINGS, DON'T JUST DO THE THINGS RIGHT
What say ye, people? |

| Good catch. [:)>-]
However, if we were forced to CHOOSE between a) doing the right thing ALL WRONG and b) doing the WRONG THINGS all right, what do you think the saying should be? [?] |

I believe it is Jackal's signature. Perhaps he could clarify on this matter.
I think it means "Do the right things wrong"
@Ed, I would choose b) |
| Keith |
| (B) At least things are done right. Although it is the wrong things.
One is forced to do the wrong things. Right things done right should right the wrong things done.
Right things done wrong are still wrongs. |

Well, In this fast and competitive world, especially when you are doing business or making a decision regarding your life, it is better to do anything ONCE and do it RIGHT, instead of doing the things wrongly without planning and foresight and thereafter waste time doing it right again ( correcting the wrongs )and sometimes you even won't have a second opportunity to correct it again.. One wrong decision could set you back many years.....
Sometimes it maybe too late when you realize that you have done the wrong thing or made the wrong choice and you will just stand there and "watch the parade go by" or it could even cost you millions to rectify it. It may seem a simple sentence but it has a lot of meaning in it if you analyze it or when you come out and face the REAL world..
Just as you would say, " Work smarter, not harder" OR " Look Before You Leap " ... Times have changed now, if you want to stay ahead of the "rat-race" or your competition, you literally have no margin for errors.
According to my experience the ROAD of one's life is a ONE WAY Street with many intersections.. There is no U turn and you got to make the right decision and take the correct turn when you come to the cross-roads.. .... Clear ? Roger dat ? [;)][;)]

| The problem remains : If Things are not done right, how could the Right things be done.
Things include Right things, to differentiate doing the right from wrong, 'just' has to be added.
So, the saying should be amended to read : Do the right things, don't just do things right. This will exlcude wrong things.
Don't do the things right means (Every) Things should be done wrong - taking wrong turns at every intersection. |

It seems you still didn't get my meaning.. Read the first paragraph of my post above. |
| Keith |
| I am talking about : "Do the RIGHT thing, Don't do the THINGS right..."
should be changed to "Do the RIGHT thing, Don't "JUST" do the THINGS right..."
Do you agree with the change?
Discussion on your paragraph will come later. |

Yes, I don't mind adding an extra "JUST" to it.. I agree.. OR " DON"T JUST KEEP ON DOING THE THINGS RIGHT " would be much better. |

Yes, that's HITTING THE NAIL RIGHT ON THE HEAD.. That's the real meaning of all these discussions in these few simple words !![^][^] |
| Keith |
| The whole discussion was and is centered on the above signature
"Do the RIGHT thing, Don't do the THINGS right..."
If words are nails, then the second part of that signature is wrong nails.
The second part "Don't do the THINGS right..." negates the first part "Do the RIGHT thing,"
I asked a simple question : If you don't do the things right, how could you do the right things?
My point of discussion is not about doing the right thing, the point of discussion should be : Does the signature "Do the RIGHT thing, Don't do the THINGS right..." makes sense?
Isn't it a contradiction? If the signature is to be believed, then no Thing is to be done right. Every Thing is to be done wrong.

With all due respects, it seems you are either not well versed in English proverbs or you are just arguing for the sake of arguing.
" Hitting the nail right on the head " is another proverb I used to PRAISE Formosa for writing WELL !!! It has nothing to do with decifering the signature.[;)][;)]

| I am dumbfounded that some 1 took part and also "watch the parade go by". But never realised what was the intended purpose of the 'parade'? |

| The Right Thing for me to do is to sign off now. But then, I don't do things right. This 'parade' that I started is great fun. I have no intention of ending it. |

No, it is a waste of time. I have made myself very clear. If you have any questions, please make an appointment with me.
You are the one who keep watching this parade and never realised that it is meant for you. Thus, it is for you to end this by amending your signature to "DO THE RIGHT THINGS, DON'T JUST DO THE THINGS RIGHT"
I now move the motion :
Jackal's signature "Do the RIGHT thing, Don't do the THINGS right..."
should be amended to read
"DO THE RIGHT THINGS, DON'T JUST DO THE THINGS RIGHT"
All those in favor say : 'Aye'

I think YOUR OWN signature speaks well of yourself. YOU wouldn't be talking like this if you knew WHO I am and how high I stand here, bro.

| Are you sure? If things are not done right, how could the right thing be done?
How high you stand is not a question here. Your signature is in question.
Please enlighten me on how my signature applies to me.
I don't want to sound offensive. Honestly, I think it applies more to you. May be you are standing too high to see that you are standing on feet of clay??
And Formosa, please! he is not from Taichung, he is from India, now living in Taichung. |
