Gov't plans to rewrite history texts, dropping China focus.

Now, this is really getting on my nerves. When I was in Taiwan, I just couldn't tolerate DPP's stance, on television, I am happy I moved to Singapore, where the people look towards China as a new leader, where the newspaper editorials doesn't blindly bash the CCP.

Seriously what with these guys? Is it just the DPP govt or the majority of the public? Frankly most people will follow what the govt proposes to them.

I am happy to know that Taiwan's computer industry isn't in peak of times, they are facing tough competition, there is excess supply of computer parts. Get the jobs out of Taiwan, let the employment go down, and make the people worry more.

I've friend in the Taiwan computer industry, I am sorry to them I had to say this.

A fifth of Taiwanese want independence from China soon: survey Sat Nov 13, 2:00 AM ET Asia - AFP TAIPEI (AFP) - The number of Taiwanese who want rapid independence from China has reached a record high 21 percent, despite Beijing's repeated threats to crush any such moves, according to a new survey. A similar survey in March 2000, right after independence-leaning Chen Shui-bian was elected president, showed only eight percent wanted independence swiftly. The latest opinion poll published Saturday by the United Daily News surveyed 942 people on Friday against the backdrop of the education ministry's controversial announcement last week that it planned to split the history of the island from that of China in new school textbooks. The survey also found that 10 percent of Taiwanese wanted "slow independence," while 36 percent preferred to maintain the status quo. Taiwan has governed itself since it split from China in 1949, but has not formally declared independence. China still claims sovereignty over the island an1d has threatened to invade should it move towards full independence. Only six percent of those polled favor "rapid reunification" with the mainland, a three percent decline from four years ago. A separate opinion poll conducted by the TVBS news network in September indicated that for the first time more people here felt they were "Taiwanese" (45 percent) rather than "Taiwanese and Chinese" (41 percent).

I know this survey and it is a Public Relations game, a tug and war between the DPP and the KMT with the CCP. The DPP are winning inches by inches, but my hope are in a sudden reverse avalanche. The DPP are winning because reunification is taking too long, the younger generation don't know much about how hard Chinese fought with the British, Japanese and every other foreigners. It is natural for them to associate themselves as Taiwanese. I, myself, surveyed a lot of my fellow classmates. It is such a pity. But pundits believe China will win the propaganda war in the long run. I got really annoyed because I just read up the history of HongKong, and how we, chinese, were bulllied by the British, how the New Territories were stolen from the Qing dynasty. And to add insult to injury, Chinapost report the above news. [:0]

OPINIONS POLLS ARE FOR REFERENCE ONLY. HOW THE SAMPLE IS SELECTED WILL DETERMINE THE RESULT. TAKE THE SAMPLE FROM SOUTH TAIWAN AND THE LOWER STRATA OF THE SOCIETY, THE RESULT WILL PROBABLY BE IMMEDIATE INDEPENDENCE. THE SAMPLE FROM TAIPEI CITY AND UPPER STRATA MAY WANT IMMEDIATE REUNIFICATION. IT MUST BE REMEMBERED THAT OPINION POLLS/SURVEYS HAVE BECOME TOOLS IN THE HANDS OF POLITICIANS OUT TO ADVANCE THEIR OWN AGENDA. ME FEEL MAJORITY OF TAIWANESE ARE TOO TIMID TO DEFY GOVERNMENT. THAT WAS WHY AH BIAN DID ALL THAT HE COULD, BY HOOK OR BY CROOK TO SECURE HIS PRESIDENCY. HE WANTS TO BE AT THE HELMS OF AFFAIRS TO STEER PUBLIC OPINION. REVISING HISTORY IS ANOTHER STEP IN THAT DIRECTION.
