India is set to overtake China as the world's most populous nation by 2050, while some countries will shrink by nearly 40%, according to new research.

PREDICTED POPULATIONS, 2050 (2004 position)
1 India, 1,628m (2)
2 China, 1,437m (1)
3 United States, 420m (3)
4 Indonesia, 308m (4)
5 Nigeria, 307m (9)

So China one-child policy is working, an example where authoritarian govt has the edge over a democratic goverment. But the onus is on the female only child to perform, I've many such friends from China who have a burden of the family on their shoulders.

one child policy according to some experst is a time bomb policy.... as more ppl aboprt female childs n go for male child....one fine day males wil have hard time lookin for brides....n hence china wil implode socially n demographicaly! jus a paragraph frm a phd paper... When I was in India, I used to ask my workers why they " produced" so many kids when it is so difficult to feed them... The answer I got was " BUGHWAAN DETA HAI, HUM KYA KAR SUKTA HAI ?? ".. !!!!

Those street ppl living outside my house. gosh.. a young girl is giving birth every year and now 3rd is on the way ...[:0] they cant even feed themselves how they will feed their kids.. And then there is this other woman who is a grandmother and now gave birth to a kid again [8-|] no brains.. i swear..

Yeah! Remember "Jurassic Park?!" They only checked if the number of dinos was not less than the known number. But when they did a head count, it was more!! We're only checking known sources. If an actual headcount were carried out, we probably out-populated China a decade ago. [:0]
