Original Thread: MAJOR HAKKA or Minor hakka
MiBe
Majority of the Chinese living in India are Hakka people , a major Chinese language which is understood and spoken by Chinese in India is Hakka but once Hakka people go to  other Chinese speaking nations e.g. China,Hong kong and Taiwan we get the feeling Hakka language is not that universal spoken language.

If Hakka could be a  major in India as Chinese then why do we   get a feeling of being a minor speaking people in other Chinese spoken countries?

Because they're natives and we're immigrants? [:p]

Well its is a fact that cantonese is a more popular language around the world , and hakka is only popular in china (where they were from) and , to some extend in calcutta india, though there are hakka people in several parts of the world. Whereas cantonese is more popular around the world ..... and there are logical reasons for such popularity of cantonese around the world. Province of Canton in China is in the south and so cantonese are the first to start migrating to other lands , even before there was aircraft , people sailed out on ships, and majority were cantonses because of the geographical position of the Province of Canton being in south china and exposed to the sea. Thus cantonese people went quickly to many parts of the world making cantonese a more popular chinese language in the world.

I think there are hakka people in every part of the world.. but the difference is.. maybe just like MiBe said.. we feel as if we are speaking an alien language and everyone looks at you when you speak..[:-SS] so we tends to mingle with the others and speak their language.. so the next generation wont speak hakka... People speaking hakka starts decreasing.. They know they have blood of hakka but they dont speak hakka.. they wont say they are hakka too until they meet hakka people.. [:-<]
